About Allison

I decided to train as a Medical Herbalist when my children were young, and we were living in South West Wales, surrounded by many medicinal plants. I became very curious about these plants and how they could help heal my family from various ailments, and from here, a lifelong passion for herbal medicine was born.

In 2019, I embarked on my herbal training, first studying a foundation course and then the professional course with Heartwood, an organisation accredited by  The National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH).
Since then, I have seen the healing power of plants with patients and personally. Nature's laboratory is an infinitely complex and beautifully orchestrated tapestry of living medicine, where leaves, flowers, and roots hold the quiet intelligence to heal us.

What is a Medical Herbalist?

Medical herbalists make use of plants whose traditional uses are backed up by modern scientific research and clinical trials. We have all studied Herbal Medicine to degree level, which includes the study of orthodox medicine as well as plant medicine. We are trained in the same diagnostic skills as a GP. However, herbalists take a holistic approach to illness, treating the underlying cause of disease rather than just the symptoms. We are able to prescribe herbal remedies to be used alongside other medications and treatments.

Services

Initial Consultation

60-90 minutes  £75 Under 18 £55

During the initial consultation, I will ask you to describe in depth the health issues you are currently facing and will also ask detailed questions about other aspects of your health, including past illnesses and family history. I will focus on you as an individual and consider the root cause of your illness rather than just the symptoms. I may perform a physical examination if appropriate. If referral to another discipline is necessary, e.g. an osteopath or to your GP, I will talk this through with you during the consultation.

During this consultation, I will also give you an idea of how long I expect treatment to last, as herbal medicine is generally used to bring the body back into balance rather than as a long-term corrective medication, and as such, it is hoped that you will not need the medicine indefinitely.

Once the consultation is complete, I will take a few days to consider your case and select the herbs that are appropriate for you. These will be made up into a bespoke medicine.

Follow up Consultation

30-45 minutes  £40 Under 18 £30

During the follow-up consultation we can discuss how you are getting on with the herbal medicine and your progress. Generally, I like to see patients after 3 weeks initially, moving to 4-6 weeks after the first follow-up.

Once you have had an initial consultation, you are very welcome to make an appointment for a new health concern, even if that is years afterwards. I will only charge you for a follow-up consultation.

Prescriptions

Approximately £10-15 per week

Herbal medicine can take many forms, including tinctures, herbal teas and creams. Generally, alcohol based tinctures are used as they are great for extracting and preserving the constituents of plants, and lend themselves to the bespoke nature of prescribing for individuals, as many herbs can be combined to form an individualised prescription.

As you can probably imagine, with a bespoke prescription the weekly price can vary. I will always discuss costs with you before I dispense, ensuring that your medicine is affordable for the course of your treatment.
